Stearated paper, or stearated sandpaper, is coated with a dry lubricant like zinc stearate. This coating acts like cooking spray on a pan. It keeps dust from sticking to the sandpaper. It prevents clogging (called “loading”) when you sand soft items like paint, wood, or putty.
